One of the oldest labels in Italy and the winery’s most produced, testament to Monsanto’s philosophy regarding Sangiovese. An accessible example of the unique style and character of Castello di Monsanto wines. This multi-faceted wine can be enjoyed straight away or left to develop and evolve as the years roll by. It is our most widely produced wine by far, underlining our winery’s belief in Sangiovese, which acquires a strength and energy from our soil that must be patiently awaited. One of the oldest wines in Italy, it appeared on the market in the 1960s and has become an ambassador for the entire denomination around the world.
Climate Trend: An autumn with low temperatures and copious rainfall was followed by harsh temperatures and snow until March. The spring at first was quite cool, then temperatures were very high in May, dropping at the end of the month and staying low until mid-June. The summer was very hot and dry at the beginning, but in August some rainfall slowed down the ripening process. Then from the second half of August good temperature fluctuations between day and night resulted in grapes with great oenological potential.
